Alien Sleep Cuffs are a pair of high-tech handcuffs that can render any alien unconscious, or as the name implies, into very deep sleep.
However, it is unconfirmed if they actually work or not, as they supposedly have never been used on an alien before.
Description[]
They only appeared twice in the series. The first was in "The Nightmare Begins", in which Dib attempts to use them to capture Zim. After a long chase to Zim's house, they were vaporized by a laser shot from one of Zim's lawn gnomes.
The second and last time was during the TV movie Enter the Florpus. This time, it was Zim who handcuffed himself, presumably with a new set of the alien sleep cuffs, as he has gone into a deep depression once he found out that Earth was not in the path of the Irken Armada and therefore lost all will to continue his mission, as he believed he lost the respect of the Tallest. Possibly predictably, they don’t appear to actually work, as Zim was not rendered unconscious.
Facts of Doom[]
- It should be noted that if the handcuffs that were seen in Enter the Florpus were another set of the alien sleep cuffs, then it serves as a confirmation that they don’t actually work on aliens as Dib claimed, and he was simply gullible enough to believe that they did.
- The fact that Dib said before the major chase scene from the first episode that he got them from "one of (his) U.F.O. Zines", a set of rather dubious magazines, seems to imply that the cuffs have no real scientific basis (as they haven’t been used on an alien before) and most likely they were made to fool U.F.O. enthusiasts to fork over their money.
