Media Blasters is an American entertainment company founded in 1997 by John Sirabella and Sam Liebowitz, based in New York City. It is in the business of licensing, translating, and releasing to the North American market manga and anime compilations, Asian films and television series, adult anime, monster movies, concert films, independent films, horror films and exploitation flms.

Under its Anime Works label, the company co-distributed the initial volume DVD and box sets of the Invader Zim TV series with Nickelodeon.[1][2][3][4][5]

In a 2004 interview with IGN, IGN asked Jhonen how the idea of Invader Zim on DVD began. Jhonen's response was that fans had made a lot of noise about Zim and that in turn caused Media Blasters to approach Nickelodeon about releasing Zim episodes on DVD. He added, "They liked ZIM and approached Nick, who probably blinked and asked why the hell anyone would want to make DVDs of a show that did so poorly and didn't have X-treme kids in it."[6]
