Membrane Labs is where Professor Membrane works. It is the place where he does anything if it’s in the name of science, regardless or not if it's ethical. It also has a studio where the show “Probing the Membrane of Science” is filmed, as well as several tasks that fans of Professor Membrane must complete in order to be in the audience of the show as seen in “Battle-Dib”.
The lab is most likely somewhere downtown of the city, and was apparently destroyed but rebuilt as implied in “Parent- Teacher Night”, as one of the Professor’s assistants did a mixture incorrectly which resulted in a mushroom cloud that could be seen for miles.
During a live recording of his show in “Bad, Bad Rubber Piggy", Professor Membrane explained the dangers of time traveling using a “Temporal Object Displacement Device”, and how only a moron would use such an unpredictable technology, unaware said machine would soon very nearly kill his own son after Zim creates one.
Membrane Labs is an imposing structure that is implied to be getting funding from the government and other organizations, as in “Gaz; Taster of Pork”, Professor Membrane himself said he was getting sponsorship from the Deelishus Weenie Corporation to make the Pig Girl Wing and also be able to possibly find a cure for Gaz from the disease he named “Pig Mouth”.
During Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus, Zim briefly had complete control of Membrane Labs after kidnapping Professor Membrane, and used the resources he had available in order to complete Phase Two of his newest plan to take over the Earth.
Facts of Doom[]
- Despite evidently being the most advanced lab on Earth, Zim called the technology made by Professor Membrane inferior to Irken Technology, and even said in “Bolognius Maximus” that Irken Smeets play with more advanced toys.
- Membrane Labs is most likely the second most advanced laboratory on Earth, as Zim’s lab has technology centuries if not thousands of years more advanced than human. However, in Issue 39, it was revealed that Tak’s Ship is the most advanced piece of technology on the planet.
- During “The Most Horrible X-Mas Ever!” , Professor Membrane was in his lab and gave Dib permission to use his Anti-Santa Arsenal he made during his childhood. This implies that the Professor has several other labs world wide, something supported by Quarterly 3 showing that the Anti-Santa Arsenal is in a bunker in the Arctic.
- Ironically, despite Zim calling the technology made by Professor Membrane “inferior”, it was still a crucial part of his plan to take over the Earth as he used both Membrane Labs and the Membracelets in order to teleport the Earth in the path of the Irken Armada during the events of Enter The Florpus.
