Netflix is an American media-services provider headquartered in Los Gatos, California. Founded in 1997 as a DVD rental-by-mail service, starting in 2007 Netflix expanded its business model by introducing online media streaming services. Since then, it has grown to provide streaming to more than 190 countries around the world.

On May 10, 2019, Viacom announced that they had sold the distribution rights for Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus to Netflix; three days later, Netflix announced that they intended a summer 2019 release date for the film. Jhonen Vasquez later stated on Twitter that he was notified of the movie's selling to Netflix before it was publicly announced.

On July 13, 2019, Richard Horvitz announced at Atlanta Comic Con that Netflix would be releasing Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus at some point in August. On July 23, Netflix confirmed this by showing a small clip of the movie, revealing that the film would be released on August 16, 2019.

On August 6, 2019, Netflix released the final trailer for Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus worldwide, before releasing the movie on schedule on the 16th.

in 2019, Netflix and Nickelodeon agreed to a multi-year deal to produce original animated shows and feature films for kids and families worldwide. The programming will be based on popular Nickelodeon characters along with new ones, but it remains to be seen if Invader Zim will be a part of the deal.

In San Diego Comic Con 2020 Eric Trueheart revealed that after Enter the Florpus aired, nobody from Nickelodeon or Netflix called up Jhonen Vasquez to say, 'Hey, nice job.' He added by saying that "I might not be able to tell people that, but I just did! And there might not be people at Nickelodeon or Netflix, who are really focusing on the fact that the 20th anniversary of the series is coming up, so it might be incumbent upon fans to remind them."

This prompted the fans to start a petition on July 27, 2020 asking Netflix to bring back Invader Zim.
