Command Chair

ZIM sitting on his command chair.

The Remote Command Chair was, as the name implies, a device meant to take control of the Massive. It made its only appearance in “Backseat Drivers from Beyond the Stars”, and was central to the plot as once Zim found out that the Tallest are near the Earth, he invited them to witness “the end of all mankind.” However, the Tallest don't care nor do they want to be near Zim, and simply faked being under attack to fool him. Failing to understand the very obvious fact that his leaders don't want to see him, Zim instead decides to bring them to Earth in hopes that they’ll appreciate his efforts.

Zim got in contact with Prisoner 777 on Planet Vort, who fearfully warned Zim that having both the schematics of the Massive and the command chair would infuriate the Irken Armada, but predictably Zim ignored the warning and simply gloated over the fact that he would have the tools to bring the Massive to Earth. Of course, chaos happens and despite Zim’s “best” efforts, Tallest Red simply ordered the power core to be switched so instead of the Massive arriving on Earth, the Resisty Ship ended up being controlled by the unaware Zim, who screamed in confusion once he witnessed on the monitors all his efforts being for nothing.

The command chair is purple in color, with enough space for someone to sit comfortably within the chair. It was connected to several screens so Zim could see where he was piloting the Massive to. It also has the Invader insignia on its front, and it had a joystick and several buttons, which had several purposes which presumably were for changing how the screens were seen.

Also, while being stationary on the floor, Zim was capable of bouncing the chair as he piloted the Massive and has the ability for long-distance hacking and hijacking as no matter the many lightyears the Massive was, Zim could still pilot it without issue.

After the episode it was never seen again, and presumably Zim put it in storage as he never attempted to bring the Tallest to Earth for a second time.

Facts of Doom.[]

  • The Remote Command Chair is of Vortian origin as Zim got the instructions from Prisoner 777.
  • The chair resembles the Massive, with the coloration being purple instead of red.
    • This may have been done intentionally by Zim as Jhonen Vasquez has said that purple is Zim’s favorite color.
  • Despite clearly being a piece of advanced Irken/Vortian technology, the remote command chair has the appearance of a kiddie ride.
    • This was most likely done to empathize on Zim’s immaturity and insanity as well as his enjoyment for video games.
  • Aside from Zim, GIR was the only other one to ever use the chair.
  • Tak’s Ship has a similar technology as Dib was also able to drive the Massive to prevent the Tallest to reach Earth.
