Zim arriving at the Fortress of Pain.
The Fortress of Pain is an imposing building that is on the desert planet of Hobo 13. Sergeant Hobo 678 called it the “dreaded Fortress of Pain”, which suggests that the place is known for being torturous to anyone who sets foot in it.
However, contrary to its name, the Fortress doesn't have many painful devices (or at least ones visible to the eye, as it is implied any technology meant to cause pain can simple transport to the Fortress at will) meant to harm its visitors, other than a transportation field that is used to send anyone who loses a battle to the Holding Pen of Pain, or if it’s full, to the Outhouse of Madness.
The Fortress seems to have two doors, one in the front and one in the back, big enough for even the Hogulus to get inside. It also seems to have a removable roof that allows the sun to get in. There isn't much else inside, but it evidently also has cameras, as the Tallest were able to see the battle between Hobo 678 and Zim.
The Fortress made its only appearance in the episode “Hobo 13”.
Facts of Doom[]
- The Fortress of Pain seems to resemble a helmet that may or may not be used by the Hobos in battle.
- This is where Hobo 678 called Zim “the worst student he ever had”.
- The animatics of the episode showed a far more epic battle between Zim and Hobo 678 in the Fortress rather than just Zim punching the sergeant out of the arena. It's possible this was cut due to time.
