The Virooz Protocol is a computer virus which infects GIR in issues 22 and 23 of the Invader Zim comic series.
Summary[]
The Virooz Protocol virus is named for the alias used by its creator, who deliberately infects GIR with it in order to gain Zim's attention.
It first manifests itself during an attempt by Zim to infiltrate and sabotage the Cheezos Factory, causing GIR to attempt to kill Zim every chance he gets. This later leads to GIR going on a full rampage across the factory, attacking everyone there even while Zim continues to try and complete his sabotage. Eventually, he's attacked one final time, and manages to restrain GIR.
Back at base, all of Zim's attempts to remove Virooz fail, so the Computer suggests that he enter a virtual construct of GIR's mind in order to destroy it personally. Zim is reluctant to do this, but the Computer puts him in the construct anyway. Zim finds himself in a bizarre city full of nonsensical programs and buildings where nothing works right, and several programs have been infected by Virooz (marked by having miniature versions of Virooz on their heads).
Several of these infected programs capture Zim and force him to fight other programs in an arena, but he easily defeats them. He then meets Hok, GIR's error correction software in the form of the Irken who first programmed the SIR Units, who reveals that he has an anti-virus that can destroy Virooz. The two of them then infiltrate GIR's operational core, where Virooz is located, only for him to apparently not be present. This causes a suspicious Zim to believe that Hok is really Virooz, so he destroys him.
Virooz then reveals itself, and states that its intention all along was to get Zim's attention and pass along a message. It does this by conjuring a program in the form of a floating golden baby. As it puts forth the message (coordinates leading to the planet where the real Virooz is), Zim uses the anti-virus that Hok gave him.
The Virooz Protocol and all its infected programs are destroyed, and GIR is returned to normal, while Zim sets out to find its creator.
Facts of Doom[]
- The nature of the Virooz Protocol is similar to the multiagent system XANA from Code Lyoko and the Venjix Computer Network from Power Rangers RPM.
